Simko: I was pretty busy (accidentally) kicking a stiletto off and practically into an orchestra at the MoMA opening last night. Typical.
Alexander: Could be worse - I was at a benefit at the Chelsea Art Museum Saturday night and witnessed a guy knock over a sculpture and crack it. Another guy was licking a painting and rubbing it (he looked like he was on some seriously good Ecstasy).
Museums tell a story, but not the only story. These days, artists seem to want...
– Thanks Rach! Kathy Halbreich, the new associate director at MOMA, last night at the Artforum Art + Money discussion. Approximate quote as I was writing it down, but needless to say, I think she’s going to bring a lot to the museum. (via rach)

joelaz: 10,000 people around the world were each paid $0.01 to draw a section of a $100 bill, not knowing that they were working together to create a piece of art. Powered by Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.
Cool project; great they used money as the subject.

Gatekeepers to the Art World

On a balmy Saturday afternoon in far west Chelsea, the après-brunch art stroll gathers force, as the gallery tourists emerge from winter hibernation. Snippets of gossip in a confetti of languages! Purse pooches! Let’s see who you’re wearing, let’s see who’s on the walls. Springtime warmth dances friskily along West 24th.
Until you step behind the opaque gallery doors that line the...
