Banksy at the Bristol museum
This article says it’s an original Hirst that he has stenciled over. I am going to stop researching it and accept that to be the truth, because it is a pretty idea in my head.
Ok, I’m over graff/street art and thought this fella was played but this is the 2nd Banksy I’ve seen this week that reminds me why I like the guy.
This makes me smile. There’s no contemporary artist who I dislike more. Despite what appreciation I have for individual pieces, I have very little patience for Hirst as a person. My breaking point was this quote regarding his diamond skull: “That’s when you stop laughing,” Hirst says. “You might have created something that people might die because of. I guess I felt like Oppenheimer or something. What have I done? Because it’s going to need high security all its life.”
He felt like Oppenheimer because he made something that somebody might want to steal? I can see a limited if wrong comparison to the diamond trade killing lots of people and the bomb killing lots of people, but that’s not even what he’s saying. He’s just an ego-maniacal fuck.
Oh let this be true, indeed.
