Charles Ray, Hinoki.
The product of this collaboration, ten years in the making, is a replication of a decaying log done in fresh, unfinished hinoki cypress. The marks of the tools and evidence of the dovetails that join sections of the sculpture enliven its pastel surface.
Compared to other stuff by Charles Ray humans are refreshingly missing from this piece. Except for the marks of the artist. I love how mature and meditative this feels compared to the other works.
