I have touched on the controversial nature of this painting(detail) of Myra Hindley by Marcus Harvey before. I guess it is causing quite the stir again after being accidentally shown in promotion for the London Olympics in 2012.

It’s a picture of an evil person, not an evil picture. Yes, it’s uncomfortable and unnerving, in a way that any really graphic (violent) representation could never be. It flashes by in a video and it’s a problem? Talk about trying to smooth things over before it’s a problem. About trying to control everything. Be proud of your culture being able to produce and freely discuss these sorts of controversial pieces of art.
